Why did you originally purchase RapidBac™Vet?
DR. HOKETT:
Recommendation of a veterinary internal medicine specialist in practice.

DR. HOKETT:
Technicians.
Under what circumstances do you offer RapidBac™Vet as an option to clients?
DR. HOKETT:
To rule in/out infections in any fluid, often dilute urine samples but also other body fluids.
Do you think that RapidBac™Vet is a trustworthy alternative to microscopic urinalysis (or other methods) for detecting bacteriuria?
DR. HOKETT:
It’s better – 97% accurate, more accurate than culture. Novel since it detects bacterial cell walls, dead or alive.
What do you do when you get a positive result with RapidBac™Vet?
DR. HOKETT:
Culture if possible. If not, I’ll make an antibiotic choice based on the result.
What do you do when you get a negative result with RapidBac™Vet?
DR. HOKETT:
Do not treat with antibiotics!
How do you use RapidBac™Vet in cases of diabetic patients?
DR. HOKETT:
As indicated in dilute urine.
How do you use RapidBac™Vet in emergency/24-hour care?
DR. HOKETT:
As needed for any body fluid, abdominal/chest taps, etc.
What advice would you have for veterinarians who are considering RapidBac™Vet?
DR. HOKETT:
Great addition to practice. Avoids negative cultures and unnecessary antibiotics, promoting drug resistance.
ABOUT DR. LAURA HOKETT
Dr. Hokett graduated from LSU in 1987. She worked at two large progressive animal hospitals in Las Vegas, where she lived for 17 years. Best Friends Animal Hospital and Pet Hotel was her dream hospital and opened in Fayetteville, AR, in 2005.
